How does one go about getting a lot of followers on Twitter?

My friend and I are having this contest. Whoever gets to 100 followers first has to pay the other $100. Obviously I want to win. I just need 30 more followers. How could I do that?

Make a bunch of random accounts and have them follow you. If you would rather go about it a more honest way I suggest you only tweet valuable content that adds to the conversation, link to interesting stories, and reply to people you follow.

The fastest way, follow recent followers of other people as they were the most active ones recently and they may follow you right back!

Its not just about a numbers game but also you should have real people following you. I have over 30K followers and I did it easily without using much software help. If you use software, then its bots that follow you to which you cannot sell anything in future or make money from them in anyway.
