How do I get "Friends" to show up under my Favorites tab on Facebook?

The word "Friends" disappeared from my Favorites tab on the left sidebar in Facebook. It has appeared near the bottom of the sidebar, but there is no little pencil beside it that would enable me to add it to my favorites. Instead it has been subdivided into all kinds of categories, which have the edit pencils beside them. Is there any way I can just add friends back to the favorites list, or get rid of all those subcategories and just have a friends category only?

or did you set your friends to private? that will also remove it from the top favorites list
