Can you place a background on a facebook profile?

I am trying to fix up my new account on facebook and trying to see if i can put a background on my facebook profile. If so can someone tell me the steps on how to aquire a background and how to place it on the my profile?

I used to have one in the fifth and sixth grade but when I had one, no body had a background. I'm not sure if it has changed though,

You can, but it won't come out looking right. facebook is currently not set up to handle layout codes. Maybe in the future.
