How to get followers for twitter-please help!?

I just got twitter and i need followers all my friends have at least 40 and i only have 10. How do I get more followers? I already posted on FB and texted it but it didnt really help :/ I really need some and want some all help is appreciated, thanks!!

Follow more people, the more people you follow the more people know you have a twitter. Post interesting things, and use hash tags. (#) Hash Tags are used for things that are trending and many people will be able to see your post and eventually either retweet you, or retweet you and follow you.

So I had twitter for literally a year and a half and only had 56 followers and anytime I asked how to get more, people told me "be more interesting" and that's not gonna help someone find your account! So at 7pm the day before yesterday I searched "I follow back" on twitter and followed a bunch of people who were following those pages! Aide all the peopl that follow those pages usually follow back too. And I'm not even kidding, the day before yesterday I had 56 followed and now I have almost 600.
