How to stop status updates from certain facebook friends?

So annoying when some "friends" repost the same lengthy blah blah blah every hour. It clogs up my phone screen and prevents me from seeing genuine updates from the rest of my world. Is there a way to control this? THanks!

just click the box to the upper right of their post, and choose, "hide username"

Next to your friend's update, there should either be the hyperlinked word, hide, or an arrow. Click on which ever one of these shows, and it should give you the option to 'Hide this member' or 'hide[friend name]. Click this option, and it should hide further updates from this friend. If you dont have the option on your phone, you may have to log onto your computer to get the option. Hope I helped!
