how do i make my facebook private?

how do i make my facebook totally private so that you can search me but when you click on my profile you see nothing but my profile pic and you have to add me to see my wall

*click on the arrow
*Click on privacy settings

Go to Your Privacy Settings Under How i Connect Under the Wall Setting Have that Set to Friends Only Than Go to your Photo Albums Have Each Album Set to Friends Only And Have Everything Else Set to Friends Only and That Should Do The Trick

Go to the top right corner where it says your name, then home, and next a arrow down. Click on that arrow then go to privacy settings.

1. Click on the arrow to the right of the "Home" button. (It is situated on the top right of your Facebook Screen, left to your News Feed)

2. From the drop down menu, click on "Privacy Settings"

3. Scroll down and click on "Edit Settings", the one associated with "How You Connect".

Preferable options would be:

a) Who can look up to your Timeline by name? - Friends
b) Who can look you up using the email address or phone number you provided? - Friends
c) Who can send you friend requests? - Friends of Friends
d) Who can send you Facebook messages? - Friends

Click on "Done"

4. Click on "Edit Settings", the one associated with "Timeline And Tagging". Preferable options would be:

a) Who can post on your timeline? - Only Me
b) Who can see what others post on your timeline? - Friends
c) Review posts friends tag you in before they appear on your timeline - On
d) Who can see posts you've been tagged in on your timeline? - Friends
e) Review tags friends add to your own posts on Facebook - On

Now your privacy settings are strong and a Facebook user who is not your friend shall only see your cover photo and profile picture. Also, he would only be able to add you if he has mutual friends with you.

Note: ALL your cover photos on Facebook are public and your current profile picture is also public.
