What happened to the custom privacy settings on facebook?

Okay, I tried to prevent someone from seeing a photo tagged by me by going to Privacy, and then going to settings for Photos tagged with Me. When I selected "Custom" and went to the "Except these people" part I tried to type in a name, but the letters were just gray and nothing would come up. I typed the name but it wouldn't register and the person wasn't blocked?
Why? Any solutions?

Go to their profile and block em

Hmm...all I can say is just try it again! Exit it and go back to "privacy".

If the letters are coming up gray, maybe re-click the box you're typing in to make sure it's typing properly.
