Using the social network "Twitter"
You send twits to your followers or friends, a twit is basically a small text message which can contain a link as well, your only allowed 140 characters though... Ads |

Twittering is either the verb form of the social networking site (e.g. I was Twittering on Twitter with 140 characters or fewer)
or talking rapidly (twittering away, she relayed her whole life story) or a bird making sound (the robin was twittering a happy, spring song) |

Originally, it referred to birds chirping happily especially in the spring (as in this clip from Bambi http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Qq-dGMVOzc&NR=1) It could also refer to brisk conversation or gossip (All the girls were a-twitter when the men entered the dance floor.)
Now it most nearly means to use the social networking site Twitter.com, where one can send "tweets" and chirp about the going ons of everyday life. To pay homage to the original definition the site has a bird as its mascot. |
