One of the primary advantages of Facebook over Myspace is that it does not allow each user to add a background that makes their page impossible to read. In short, you cannot change the background on Facebook.

As explained by Dean, Facebook does not allow users to change the background of their profiles / pages ( as of now).

This is definitely a good move from usability perspective , however, changing this policy might be a good move from commercial perspectives as most brands would love to have customised design for their facebook profiles. So stay tuned, may be it is something that facebook will offer in near future.
