Does Facebook suggest friends that have searched for you before?

I have no mutual friends with him, but a while ago, the car salesman who sold me my car popped up under 'friend suggestions.' I just can't think of any other way Facebook suggested him, unless he searched for me?
If so, how do I stop people from seeing me as a friend suggestion, as a result of me searching THEIR name? Awkward...
I have never sent or received emails from the car salesman.

I had a girl I met for a week at a seminar pop up on mine that I know never searched for me. I'm pretty sure that it records the e-mails from that first time you search for friends, for both person, so since her e-mail was stored in my G-mail since I had sent e-mails to her at that time, it popped up since her FB is under that e-mail. Is that logical? I'm pretty sure that is the case.
