What's the best software to use for advertising in a small business?

Our pet supply store has an advertising agent, who doesn't seem to have a clue how to advertise us (long story). I was wondering what software is best for advertising, meaning what can I use to make flyers, ads, facebook banners, etc. I'm general manager of the store and the only idea I have is with adobe but I'm sure there are other programs out there.
What program for MS Office could I use?

MS Office and maybe another web browser other than Explorer is probably all the tools will probably need.

What you probably would need is to employ various services, like big format printers for pre-designed banner artwork you may supply.

One of the most important free sources of advertising, tat many reference instead of yellow pages is a Google Places page, Google is pushing everything local, so it's easy to show up in searches for Pet Supplies, your city, Places Pages have the red stick pins, it's a big deal to be one of the 7 on page one of search results, better yet to be at the top.

If your in any online directories, Google has probably identified your store and create a Places page. The owner can claim it then edit with added pictures, youtube video and custom description text that broadens your search matches. There's also a place to insert coupons.

The best software that you can use to create your flyers, banner ads, facebook banners are either Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator. They're a little pricey (the Adobe suite is about $600) but these two softwares can allow you to create top notch advertising materials

Provided of course that you know how to use them

The key to advertisement is tracking the ROI.

You can create several styles and versions of a banner ad for example. Then track which ones get you the most response, whether in terms of click throughs or in terms of sales.

It is always best to continue testing what works for you. You can create as many creatives as you can but you need to know what works, and weed out those that don't
