Hipsters are really awesome and unique:

- Subsidized by a parent generation of trial lawyers, politicians, physicians, and generational inheritance, they get to soul-search and add artsy and creative aspects to human life.

- They experience the goth, scene kid, retro, non-conformist, subcultural groups in youth into college

- Young demographic that spreads across diverse ethnicities and commonly share in common some portion of caucasian depressed upper-middle class liberal artsiness

- prefer a community with bikes, art galleries, coffee shops, yoga, and bubble tea and chinese food and hemp products and fosters best in quiet enclaves of urbanized multi-faceted cities like Williamsburg, Brooklyn (NYC), Laguna Beach, Cali (LA Area), Georgetown, Washington, DC, Upper West Side of Manhattan...... suburbs of Phillie ......

and the struggles these folks go through are non-financial cuz their lives are subsidized.... like so life is lots of drama and filled with art and books and novels and facebook likes and lots of new trends and cool stuff....
and everyone distinguishes from each other not on race but on new categories that separate communities from other communities....

I like Hipsters where in Canada are they? NOTE: These are not Hippies like Nelson, BC....
We mean the poser form of Hippie being Hipsters living on gentrified places in cities and wanna be of almost anything with lots of cash.... and it's FUN!!!!

And the group is seen as shallow, spoiled, rich, all that and more... but really they are just awesome in their own way as Hipsters and have a hybrid of parental wealth and imagination of a more meager artistic peasant way of life with some Ravi Shankhar trends mixed in......and Indie and stuff....

hipster..sounds like a mainstream label. If one lives a life for a passion of art and creativity, it really does not come down to where you came from or who subsidizes you. What you wear and what type of socioeconomic class you come from...you either are talented with art or not. There are some that look the look just to label themselves as cool or come up with some way to describe a desirable lifestyle.
You will find an abundance of "hipster" "cool" neighbourhoods in those cities. Try to look for the rich areas too- you may like them. Good luck.

Hipsters are a disease, and diseases should be avoided and controlled if not eradicated entirely.

You'll find hipsters at any university up here. Try not to let them get too close.
