Is there a way to make Facebook completely safe?
I am a teenager and I would like to get facebook as almost all my friends have it and always say things like "Did you see what I put on my wall this morning? Oh yeah you don't have facebook..." Its infuriating that I don't know what they are on about. My parents are worried about people contacting me, like perverts and paedophiles and so on and I want to show them that it can be safe and secure. Is there anything I can do?

Absolutely not! I totally agree with your parents. If I were your father, you wouldn't be allowed a Facebook account either. It doesn't take much for pedophiles and perverts to find young girls on Facebook. That site is a no-no in my house.

Yes use a password at least 10 characters long using upper and lower
case letters mixed with numbers. Set the Privacy Settings to Friends ONLY. Don't accept ANY friends unless you personally know them. Don't put anything up that will cause attention or misinterpretation. About sums it up. |

Hii
The internet can be a great place, but your parents are right, there can be some weirdos on here! But it's good that they are concerned and want to make sure you are safe Tell them that they can sit with you while you make your account and go through each part with them Show them Facebook's privacy policies and ensure them that you won't be adding people you don't know (which you shouldn't be doing anyway ^_^ ) Do they have Facebook? If they do, add them as friends and that way they'll feel better because they'll be able to see you on there making sure everything is okay Try and build their trust, if they can see that you are responsible and will use it for the right reasons they should come around It's also important to know how to deal with bad peoples so maybe even sit down with them and have a chat about being safe online Don't think badly of them for not letting you have Facebook, it shows that they care Just be careful with the information and photos you put on there. If they still don't want you to make an account, don't push it, try and negotiate with them I hope I helped! |
