Should i smile at him or add him on facebook first? 10 points?

So theres this one guy at my school who i think its cute for about a year now. Im 16 almost 17 and hes a year older. So i dont know him, we have no mutal friends and no classes together and he doesnt know i exist. But i know his name. And im also very shy.So what should i do first:

1) Smile at him when i see him in school which is hard cos he never looks at me and even when i have the chance to do it im scared that hell think im weird and wont smile back

2) Add him on fb. Cos i already found him but he seems not to use it that much since he has only 45 friends but idk maybe he does. And also we have no mutal friends.
I also dont wanna feel awkward the next time i see him in school and he may think' who the hell is this girl and why did she add me'

So what do u think i should do first? And why? Which would be more awkward?

Doing the Facebook thing is awkward, doubly so if he's not the kind of person with hundreds of "friends" there who just adds everyone. If he hasn't interacted with you, he's going to think you're weird.

You need to find a way to interact with him first. If he's in any club or has any mutual friends in real life, etc., you need to go somehow that way. And otherwise he's just some "cute" guy who would probably let down your fantasy image in person.
