There is no way for people to prevent others from removing themselves as a friend on Facebook, the main reason is that if you accept a friend invite from someone who is pretending to be someone else, maybe a paedophile etc... then it is neccessary to remove them. This can also prevent internet bullying, but most of all you should have the choice who you become friends with.

People remove people for different reasons.

I removed a whole lot of people I went to high school because I really don't care to talk to them anymore. Honestly, I don't really like them and I'm not interested in what they're doing.

Also, I've added some people for an application I play. Some people might delete others if they delete that app. Or just want to cut down on the number of friends they have 'cause their list is getting too big.

I don't think there's a way to keep friends forever unless you're good friends in real life - and even then, it depends on them keeping their account - which is another reason why your friend may no longer be that.

No, you can't stop it. I delete people all the time. There is no such thing as a forever friend.

I guess just when you become friends with them, don't delete them, and if they delete you, well... they probably wasn't a good friend anyways. Facebook is only a website. And you can become friends with someone again after they delted you or visa versa.
