My laptop is screwed?!?
I'm crying right now. I don't even know where to begin. Yesterday I was just on twitter when this windows file recovery stuff started popping up. I guess my hard drive is broken or something? I don't know how to fix it, and I know it will cost a lot of money. Does anyone know how much it will cost? This is my only laptop and if it breaks, I'm screwed. Confused Please help me!

Depends. Do you have all of your irreplaceable data backed up?

If so you can replace your hard drive for about $60 and 20 minutes of your time if you've never replaced a hard drive before.

If not, you will still have to buy a new hard drive but you'll be spending money getting all of your stuff that you didn't backup. That's usually around $300, sometimes more sometimes less.

Windows file recovery...?

Your laptop is fine. Nothing is wrong with it.

Worst thing that could happen is you'd have to reinstall windows. Burn yourself a Windows Install DVD to keep on hand just in case.

is this even a question? if you have a virus in your computer depending on what brand of laptop it maybe you can use the recovery application. Let's say you have an acer windows 7 laptop (click start) type in search recovery management (click the application) and restore you system back to it's default settings. In the process of doing this your hard drive will be wiped clean, everything on your computer will be set back to factory settings. Be sure to backup everything pictures, music, videos, and other documents. I highly doubt your hard drive is broken, hope you find the solution to your problem.

Hi,

Windows recovery is a tool to recover your data. It doesn’t have to do anything with hardware.

If feel worried about it, first burn all the data onto a DVD.

Then re-format your system, then it will work file. Sometimes, this pop up occurs occasionally. If you use a genuine OS nothing to worry.

Once, go to Microsoft website and click for updates. After updates get installed then restart your system.

Problems get solved. If not, re-format your hard drive after taking a backup.

Simple do not worry!

Hope this answer helps you out in one way or the other.
