How to talk to someone new?

Okay im 14 and like half my facebook friends are from other highsckools but like i kinda know them . and some i dont. How do i start and keeo the convo going(and not be boring) if im talking to someone that ive never met but go to same highsckool as me or something like that ? :/ Please help !? Like boys and girls (and they're ""cool"")
