How do I remove friends from my facebook news feed?

So here's the deal. I have quite a few friends on facebook, all of which i know. However, some [more distant] friends like to change their status every 36 seconds and it drives me insane. When i log in, i only want to see a select few of my closest friends showing up on my home page.

Can anyone tell how to solve my problem with out deleting my friends all together?

Point to the upper right hand corner of the post and click 'hide'.

When they upload a status..or post something in the news feed..if you point your cursor to the top right of the post then click hide. Then at the bottom of the screen it will say 'hidden posts' just click that if you want to veiw their posts again.

Just move your cursor to the news feed. So when you move it towards the news feed so it will show you an option "Hide". Click on that and hide it so next time the news feeds from that person won't come to your home page.
