How do I untag myself from a check-in on facebook?

Recently I was tagged in a check-in on fb, and now I can't untag myself. The option to approve tags is enabled, but that only gave me the option to hide the post from my wall. When I go to my friend's wall the post still includes my name, and when I click the X on the right coner the only option is "report/mark as spam".

Is there anyway to remove the tag? Is there an option in settings where I can actually approve tags and not just hide it from my wall?

Ask the person who tagged you to remove the post.
You can control tagging. Go to privacy settings>> click edit settings next to Timeline & Tagging and edit the settings
