I need to go see my ex but what to tell my dad?

Long story short, I met a guy and we got really serious, but then he moved away for school. He's 22, I'm 20. He's in Nova Scotia now and I'm in Ontario. Thats about 2000km away, but I'm going to Nova Scotia to see a school there to see if I want to apply for University. I'll be about 30minutes away (driving) from where he lives there - about 2 hours walking, since he lives in the country - and I really want to go visit him. We haven't talked since April, since I got a new phone and lost all my contacts. We haven't been in touch, he only has Twitter (private account so I can't message him), and doesn't have FB. I don't know what email address he uses now, so I dont know how to contact him.
I'm going to Nova Scotia with my dad to see the school, but my dads really strict and scary. I'm also too young to drive the car we're going to rent there. I'm not comfy hitch hiking, and my dad won't drive me to his house.
How can I go see him? I really need to, I'm in love with this kid, I know I'm only 20 but I know he's the one for me. We were together for 3 years and I spent the last 2 years trying to get over him after he moved away but nothing has helped. I've tried dating other boys, but I can't get over him.

What can I do to convince my dad to let me go see him while we're there? My dad and I don't have a good relationship, and my mom isn't coming with us, and she and my dad are on the verge of a divorce so I'm not gonna ask her to help me. I'm an only child too.

Please help me, I'm desperate and we're leaving to go there in a week!

tell your dad you need to go to your ex because he has something belongs to you, if he asked what is the " something" just say anything! you know, before you go to Nova Scotia take anything with you like mp3, a book, or take anything you can put in your bag or pockets but just don't let your dad know what you took because you'll say that.... damn! i mean if you took a book, don't let your dad know that you took a book! because you'll say that you need to go to your ex to take from him a book that belongs to you!
