How do I change my name on facebook to a nickname?

I want to change my Facebook name to my nickname. I know im suppose to go to acount setting and do it that way. But it doesnt work. It says i have to use my real name. But my friend just changed her name to a nickname. Is their a way around it?( I have my nickname as my username but i want it as the name that shows up on my page.)

You can only change your username which seems like a real name.
Some of the names through are real cannot be user as it is not allowed by Facebook.
