Why is there ads everywhere on my computer?!?

On facebook, there are ads EVERYWHERE! when i click on somebody's profile picture on the side of it theres a massive ad, on tumblr up the top theres an ad, on this website now, theres an ad, and it says 'ads not by this site' under all of them? WHY?!

Well its certainly not ads from the site because i have Facebook and it shows no ads. Maybe you have a virus or spyware. run a virus scan. you can get free ones.

Because that's how the internet works, sweetheart, Free websites need to earn money, don't they? So companies pay them money to put their ads on their free websites. It's as simple as that. The only way to block them is to get an adblocker application/plugin installed to your browser.

Because websites cost money to maintain and everything so the owner of the website will have ads displayed all over the place then the owner gets payed by the ad and he makes money or breaks even.

From your description above, it sounds like you have adware on your computer. Run a scan with Avast or anti-adware software and remove them.
If your computer is free of adware, just install AdBlock on your web browser. They block ads on websites.

because you dont read what you are installing. i have done the same mistake lots of times so i just switched to a different browser.

One aspect of using the 'Net many folks don't realize is your browser brings back "3rd party" assets, some may be tainted or include 'tracking cookies'. These follow and report your movements across the 'Net: then Ad agencies compile your behavior (a profile of you) to then send ads back at you.

You must modify your browsers 'automatic' behavior so it restricts what gets returned, for both security and privacy.

Get Firefox as your default browser & use it for everyday tasks.
The following mods help, but methods ("vectors") are dynamic, and users must stay abreast of daily threats.
FIREFOX: Tools> Options> Privacy> top drop menu set to "Firefox will use custom settings..."> Check 'Accept Cookies from sites'
â–ºUn-Check 'Accept 3rd Party cookies'.
And tick the very top box regarding "Do Not Track".

AdBlock Plus (with 'subscription' added) & "Better Privacy" also helps defray rubbish.

INTERNET EXPLORER does not handle 3rd party assets very well no matter what settings you have (or anything else) and won't give nearly the control as Firefox or Chrome.
