How does buying YouTube views work?
I'll put a disclaimer; I have no desire to do this, I don't even have money for gas let alone YouTube views...

Anyway, someone on my Facebook news feed was complaining about how a local band was buying YouTube views, so I researched it and turns out there are a bunch of people that can do it, but my question is how exactly does it work? I could understand a bot, but one of the ads had someone saying that they didn't use bots, so what do they do? Just take the video and share it on certain sites that target a demographic?
What I essentially meant by the last sentence is are they just basically marketing the video
To John, thank you for the advice but my question was not how do I do it/should I do it, it was how is it done

Well, I do that. I basically have a company with people who signed up for offers and surveys, What I do is, I get paid. I send the video to a few thousand people. They get views ( Much more than they paid for !!! ) And then I pay the viewers...

I generally would not trust any service selling views. People paid to watch videos can have several windows open at once, and are probably not paying any attention to your video.

For some good ideas to get more views and subscribers, most of them completely free except for your time, see the YouTube Creator Playbook:

Sort of, but it's useless. On youtube, you want to have legit views, that way you know people are watching, with likes and all that. If someone is getting paid to watch a video or something, chances are, they won't care... It's like buying Subscribers. You could have 2000 subscribers, but of those 2000, not many will really care about your videos. Do yourself a favor and do things legit. You can go around to videos, tell them to check you out without spamming. If they like you, they like you. You'll feel better in the long run if your videos are truly successful.
