Text or facebook chat my ex? HELP?

Its only been a week since the breakup. We are on very good terms and he said to talk to him whenever. I last talked to him Saturday night briefly over facebook chat because he was with friends and I didn't want to bother him. Well, today I am either going to text him or talk to him next time he is online. Which one should I do?
We dated for almost a year and have been friends for 5 years.

Texting sounds better; it's more personal too. But if he's always on fb then it's easier to chat with him there.
