How can I hide my entire Facebook timeline without deactivating my account?
I still want to know about events and get private messages, but I'd like to hide my entire profile/timeline for a while. Is there a way to do this?

All you have to do is block your profile and then select one that says only you can view your profile.

DON'T LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE THAT SAY THAT YOU CAN'T REMOVE IT.

If you use Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox, you CAN.
Check out this website - http://www.techtipsandtricks.tk - Click on 'Computer', and then click on the "remove timeline view from facebook" link, make sure that the browser name in the link corresponds with the browser you use the most.

You're welcome Smile

BTW do not click on the fbpurity link, it is a hack.

If you're looking to revert the old Facebook view from the Timeline view, Facebook don't yet provide an official option to get if off, still you have a way to do that, read it here and implement: http://techably.com/2012/02/revert-back-...-timeline/
Hope you find it useful.

Regards
