How long will your profile stay activated on Facebook after you die?

Recently, one of my friends who had a Facebook profile passed away. He has been gone now for about six months but his profile is still up like nothing has changed. Does anyone know if there is a period of inactivity that will lead to the disappearance of his profile?

his profile will stay there unless someone who has his password and user name goes into his account and deactivates the account. it won't be deleted, but after deactivation it would have to be activated in order to show up again.
