Have they changed the privacy settings on Facebook?
I can no longer see the photos my friends like in my news feed, and I was wondering whether they might`ve changed the privacy settings?

No, they cant change their activities. Go and check your friend's timeline, click on the fiends tab and select show in newsfeed.
