How do I send a direct message to someone on twitter if they don't follow me?

I wanna send a direct message to scotty mccreery, but it says i have to be following him to send him one. So I did what people say to do and put @ in front of his twitter name, and it still says i cant send him a message? Do you know how i can send him a direct message even though he doesnt follow me?

You can't. The direct messaging works in two ways. Its either your following the person so they can message you or your both following each other so the direct messaging works both ways. So basically the person has to be following you for you to message them and vise versa. If you want to message the person (new twitter, old twitter its the same,) just go to message and press @(Twittername,) in the box thing, after they followed you of course. Or you could just send them a tweet doesn't matter if your following them or not. But since the person your trying to message is famous its highly unlikely that they'll see your tweet or even follow you. But I hope he does!

Twitter doesn't allow this. You can only send direct messages to your followers. So the best way to send them a message is by mentioning them, by the way, you can mention non-followers so that's the best way to converse with them.
