Why are there ads on my Windows PC but not my Mac?
Ok so it wont be pop ups or the regular ad to the side of a website, but in the middle of the page where it wouldn't normally be, such as on an image, YouTube comments or in between Facebook statuses. I have never seen these on my iMac but see them frequently on my laptop as well as my friends. So whats the deal?

You may have installed some type of toolbar in your browser - are you using Internet Explorer? Try installing Google Chrome on your PC and see if the ads still appear while using Chrome.
Most toolbars and adware are designed for Windows so you are generally better off on the Mac! Ads |

Most of these extraneous ads are from "3rd parties" (servers located remotely and not from the site you are visiting).
Macs by default block 3rd party cookies, whereas Windows (Internet Explorer) does not block them. (See this simple sketch that explains the nature of 'cookies' and how the browser deals with them: http://www.grc.com/cookies/howitworks.htm |
