Since you are using a phone that was not designed for your Straight Talk plan it does not contain the band frequencies to support Straight Talks data features. If you want to download apps or anything like that you have to use the WiFi feature when you are in a local WiFi zone. If you still cannot download it that way you will have to side load them through Desktop Manager. Download that from the BB website and you should be able to download the apps you want from your computer, through desktop manager, to your phone.

Coming from an HTC Inspire to an old BB Bold 9000 is going to be tough. I suggest you go on craigslist or eBay, fork over $100 and get a replacement Inspire or some other cheap Android.

You aren't going to love this answer.
But, You can't use a Blackberry with a Straight Talk sim card for internet and data services.

Blackberry phones are secured with special closed OS and you can use the regular Blackberry data services (as BBM / apps) and the other Internet services only if you have a "Blackberry data plan".

If you want to use your Blackberry with a GSM carrier and enjoy all the data services including BBM/ MMS apps and browsing.. you should get a SIM card from a carrier that supports Blackberry data services.... then you can get a BIS account and register your Blackberry with your Blackberry data plan.

If your Blackberry is unlocked then it means that it can work with sim cards from any GSM carrier (such as T-mobile / AT&T and others) so you can get a sim card from another carrier that has a Blackberry support and can add you the BIS (Blackberry Internet Service)..
