is it weird to add someone on facebook before talking to them?

im a junior and there is a freshmen that i want to get to know better. we have smiled back and forth we caught each other staring at one another. i plan to talk to her this week and get her number but i was wondering if it would be weird to add her as a friend on fb now and possibly talk to her on fb first or even get her number on fb? im open to any and all suggestions please explain though rather than say it works
