why do i keep getting random followers on twitter and apparently i follow them back?

i went on my friends twitter profile and her spam tweet was "hey The number of followers keep increasing, just check this out" and there was a link. i clicked on that link and visited that website, i logged on with my twitter and since then i've had a number of increase in my followers but apparently i follow them back, because when i view their profile, it says "following".. i don't even know them so i have to keep unfollowing them individually... how can i stop this now?? grr

Sounds like you signed up for some service that automatically follows people back. If you "log on" with your twitter account, you are signing up for a service. You can stop by either going back to the site and trying to shut down your account, or by going to your Twitter page, clicking the profile icon near the upper right corner, going to Settings, and then going to Apps on the left. There you'll see all the "apps" that you've given permission to do things with your account and you can 'revoke access'.
Try to be more careful in the future with what you sign up for.
