Facebook Timeline: What is it Really and Will it Affect Phones/Apps?

Since I only go on FB on my android phone, I only hear about timeline and how bad it supposedly is. I'm too scared to go on my cpu and see because I don't want to mess anything up.
I read on wikipedia what it essentially is, but still unsure. Then I found out they are changing everyone to it March 30. Will this affect the apps, too?
