Is it appropriate to send a Facebook friend request to a radio DJ?

Since the DJ has a personal Facebook profile/account versus a 'corporate/company' profile, there is not a Like button. But I didn't want to overstep as I don't know the DJ personally.

Don’t send friend requests to people you don’t know personally. Facebook is a place for connecting with friends, family, classmates, coworkers and other people you know well. friend requests you’ve sent have gone unanswered or been marked as unwelcome, then your account will be temporarily block from sending friend requests. Better option is subscribe him if that DJ allows subscribers.
