You play live, put videos up on YouTube that have a link to your Twitter, and get your friends to follow you. Basically, you promote yourself like everyone else does when they want to get noticed.

I use Tweetmore to get followers to my twitter accounts. You log in and choose a keyword like (guitar) and it finds followers for you who are interested in that keyword. Its great and very cheap to use to build up unlimited followers.
