I only have 500 but thats because i dont use it much anymore and I quit trying to get followers but I can help you.

Follow people that have tweets that interest you and ask them to follow you back. Many people are jerks about following though so another way is to reply to people when they tweet stuff. Become friends with them and they will eventually follow you if you ask.

You can also have people promote you or yolu can do follow for follows.
