I mean a non-friend can send me messages, an outsider basically. But I set my message settings to only friends, so how is that possible? also when you block someone and they send you a message then do they know I blocked them? what response do they get?

thanks!

they can send you messages even while your privacy setting is on. What your privacy setting does is ensure that they can't see any of your information like your wall, pictures etc., it doesn't stop them from sending requests or messages. I don't know what happens when you block someone

They shouldn't be allowed to send you messages. I have my messages set to friends only as well and no one not on my list has ever sent me a message. As for the blocking, They will know you blocked them because your picture will turn into the basic blue guy picture and your name will not be able to be clicked on. Also if they try to search for you it'll be like you never existed. They won't be able to see you on anyone else's friends list or anything.
