Why would a guy ask me out on a date and never follow up?

Last week one of my male friends messaged me on facebook telling me that he wanted to set me up with a good friend of his - apparently his friend thought I was very attractive (based on my facebook profile pic) and had asked him (my friend) for my number and for him to set us up.. My friend asked me if I was interested in his friend and if I would like to meet him...I said 'yes.' A couple days later his friend calls me up and we briefly speak...he asks me when I am free so that we can go out for dinner. I told him I was free almost everyday this weekend. Then he told me he'd check his schedule and call me back because he realized that this weekend was Thanksgiving...Anyway, the weekend is here...and he hasen't called at all...nor texted...so I guess we aren't going out...

I am just wondering: why would a guy tell his friend he wants to meet me, call me up for a date...and never follow up????

Maybe he just forgot, that's all. I've done the same thing. Unlike women, who do it to try to be mean-spirited.
