Direct Messaging celebrities on Twitter?

First of all the only way I know of to directly message people on twitter is to click Direct Messages and choose the person to send it to. Now I'm following 3 regular people and all the rest celebrities. I go to direct message and it only lets me send ones to the regular people I'm following. Is there another way to do this, or do all celebrities somehow disable Direct messages from people? Thanks

you can only message people your following and their following you back, i know sucks right?

They have to be following you as well in order to direct message.if they aren't you can only do the @ thing
