Can somebody be MORE specific about these Facebook privacy issues?

Ok. Lately in the news I've been hearing about how facebook has it's privacy messed up.

But how???????
Does it mean that ANYONE all over the internet see your stuff without adding you as a friend?
Or
Does it mean that ANYONE can see your pictures?
or
Something else?

Note: I don't have a facebook right now. So, I would not know these things. (I secretly think that Mark Zuckerberg is trying to take over the world.) The last time I logged on facebook was August.

People are complaining because you now have to personally customize your profile privacy settings now, so the automatic settings are a tad more public than some people would like.However, I found the customizing thing to be perfect, because you can decide who sees what on your profile, not just nothing or everything.
