Why are there more ads than normal on Facebook?
I logged on to Facebook this morning and there were just way more ads than normal. I understand that they need to make money and stuff, and that's fine, but I talked with some of my friends, and their Facebook's are the same as always. For example, at the top next to the normal search bar, there's a search the web bar. There is a "drop down deals" link. There are ads on my news feed, every 4 or 5 posts. There was even that "You are the 100,000th visitor" crap. Like I said, I understand the necessity of advertisements, but it seems like my profile was singled out. Is it possible that I have some kind of virus, or even a hacked Facebook?

Yes. Facebook is having a lot of hacker problems, especially with porn.

Regular advertisers on Facebook might have found lately that the ad space has become increasingly competitive and the average cost per click on an ad is getting more expensive. You’re not alone in this, as recent figures show that the average CPC on a Facebook ad has risen by over half, at 54% from Q2. This is in line with increasing ad spend on Facebook, which rose by 25% from Q2. While Facebook ads will still work out on average, cheaper than Google Adwords across most industries, this is likely only going to be the case for a limited time, as more and more advertisers turn to Facebook perhaps not for a cheap form of advertising, but a more effective one.

What this increase in spend and CPC shows is that brands will need to get smart about their Facebook advertising strategy. It’s not just a case of allocating say 5% of your marketing spend on there and hoping the ads do well, but they must form part of a considered marketing plan, with a very real reason to advertise on Facebook.

facebook has changed its settings so that its default isn't secure browsing. I had the problem of pop-up ads on my facebook and spam-like ads randomly all over my facebook. Check your browser window. If it starts with "http" or "www" instead of "https" go to Account Settings > Security > Secure browsing. Check the box that enables secure browsing. After I did that, the weird pop-up ads on my facebook disappeared. you should try that regardless because using an unsecure browsing can make your account prone to being hacked.
