I don't like facebook, so I don't use it. why do people have to broadcast their whole life on the net, do they feel that small and insignificant? And what I'm doing "rightnow" is nobodys business, especially to some online perv.

not really ,it's a great way to stay connected with your old friends and family members if you're traveling all the time plus you can write little information about yourself if you want to and people outside of your friend lists don't get to view your account .

just a note : you put the same information in Yahoo than in Facebook .

It's only an invasion if you let it be. It's up to you to put information on your profile.

An invasion of privacy?

No. You signed up of your own free will.
You posted info about yourself, and invited "friends".
The internet isn't "private", so there is no expectation of privacy.

I think it all depends on the person. It is the person's choice to put in as much information about themselves as they want. And if you don't want a particular person looking at your profile you can simply block them out by putting yourself in a certain network. I personally don't like putting my relationship status on display because then everybody would know if something happened or not. You just have to be careful of what you want and don't want people to see! Smile

I'm not really sure how you could find it to be an invasion of your privacy since you have to willingly sign up for the service. It's all voluntary.

When I first signed up I felt spooked because of the amount of information they required, so I stopped the sign up process. Then a group I was in with Yahoo Groups moved to Facebook so I signed up again but used a fake name, and made it so no one except for friends of friends could see me. I also don't add anyone to my friends list unless I know them personally.

I don't like the fact that people can upload photos of me, and then tag me ... I delete the tags of my wall, but you can't delete the photos from facebook.

It depends on what information you put on your profile, and how you set your security/privacy settings. I wrote a how-to article, you can read it here:
