Let's say a guy has a girlfriend. On Facebook, one of his female friends write a post wishing him happy birthday and ends it with "xxx", which is three kisses, so is that appropriate if he has a gf and can see it?
BTW, what name is "Barr" a simplification of? Is it a female name?

Either way depends on the friendship between them. How long have they known each other. Have they ever dated before? And if it is a "kiss" it could be a kiss on the forehead.

XXX DOES mean kisses. It depends on the kind of relationship/friendship the guy has with the girl, and how comfortable his girlfriend is with the guy's friends who are female, as well as how much she trusts the guy. If he's super trustworthy and hasn't shown signs of being dishonest about anything in the past and he is able to explain why you shouldn't worry, then I'd trust him. If he's been shady in the past (been caught cheating, has a rep of being a ladies man, etc), then you definitely need to have a talk about it.

In all honesty, I wouldn't worry too much if a girl posted Happy Birthday and XXX. Girls do that kind of thing- put xxx in their messages to guys even if there's nothing going on. It's being flirty. If it was something like "Had a great time last night, wink wink," then there might be cause for concern.

Barr could be Barbara. It could also be Barry. Who knows.
