My mother in law just died..and my father in law (her husband obviously ) has started posting many many pic of them together over the years. He loved her very much and had nothing else in his life really. Now today however he has posted a pic of her in her CASKET at the funeral! I think its a bit disrespectful and gross. But maybe Im overreacting?

I would be really uncomfortable with a casket picture too. I don't think you're overreacting at all.

Yeah it is a bit disrespectful. It might be disturbing and upsetting to some to see that on Facebook. Instead he should post some pictures of when she was alive, of all the great memories they have had together.

You are. Your husband has an excellent role model. His parents loved and stayed together till death do them part. As for Facebook, he can limit or restrict people as to whom can view them - help him with his facebook.

(We all can't carry an album all the time.)

In the past, people do this - it is a way for them to still connect.
Most cultures do not view this as gross or disrespectful - most people are just new to it.

My respects...

your dad in law is going senile and is probably mildly depressed, how this deals with tech questions i don't know, but then again, facebook wasn't such a grand piece of IT genius either. putting pictures of himself and herself up on facebook is to reflect on the good times, how is her in a casket a "good time" ??? time for some therapy Wink

when you love someone with all your heart, mind, strength and soul, things like this are quite normal. There is a pain inside that has to be satisfied to some degree. Pain and stress are extremely hard to measure and we deal with it the best we can, in most cases.

How people deal with it is a personal thing, and I don't think there's any right or wrong to it. If it's something that offends you, you can always look the other way. But let him have this moment. It's how he's dealing with it.
