Is it okay to add classmates on Facebook?

The classmates I am referring to are the ones that I've talked to,and helped (w/ school work). I normally add only my close friends on Facebook, but I think i should add my classmates because I know I am going to be stuck in the same classes w/ them in the next 2 years.

I don't see why not. If you're concerned about your privacy you can change certain settings so that certain friends can't see parts or all of your profile. To do this, click on "Account" in the top right corner of any Facebook screen, then click "Edit Friends" from the drop down menu. Next, look at the sidebar on the left. Under "Lists", click Friends, which is directly below it. Then there's a button at the top of the page that says "Create New List". Add anyone you want to it, then go to your privacy settings to block off whatever you want to that list.
