Is it possible to stop all application notifications and requests on Facebook?
I've been through all the settings but I keep getting notifications and requests from people using pointless applications, e.g. "I know a secret about my friends" or "who is your best lover?" - I don't care about gossip or meaningless quizzes. Do I have to put up with this crap in order to use Facebook?
I know how to stop notifications from applications that have already contacted me, but I want to stop them notifying/contacting me in the first place!

Yes.

Simply go to the notifications and then hover over the type of notification you want to cancel. A little X will appear in the top right corner of the noitication, click it. Then a pop-up will come up asking if you want to cancel all notifications from the application. Say Yes.

For blocking quizzes, the above answer does work, but, as each quiz counts as a separate application, you'll need to do this every time one of your friends takes one (after all, ho0w many people are going to take the same quiz twice?).

As far as blanket blocking goes....YES!!! There is a way to block the spammy quizzes!!!

Here's how to do it...

Firstly, it only works in Firefox. Internet Explorer does not have this feature.

If you do not have Firefox already, you can get it for free here: http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/firefox...

Once you have firefox, you need a Firefox add-on called GREASEMONKEY.

You can get that here : https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox...

Click on 'Add To Firefox'.
When it's installed, close Firefox down and then re-start it.

Finally, you need a script called 'QUIZ-BE-GONE'.
You can get that here : http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/4589...

Click 'Install'.

That's it!!! You may need to restart Firefox one more time for it to take effect.
