Can facebook messages and cell phone messages be used as proof of a robbery?

I had gotten robbed about 5 months ago and I was talking to my neighbors mom while she was drunk, she let me in on some facebook messages and the 2 guys who did it. One of the guys took me out to the movies while he had his friend break into my house over text messaging and then he inboxed the mother on facebook begging her not to tell the police.
Could I take any legal action against this matter since I know who did it. I even know the date and time of the events.

However, it was five months ago...did you just find this out? You need to call and ask to make a police report or press charges if you choose.
