How to take a good picture?

I wanna take a good picture with my boyfriend, that I can actually put on facebook. But everytime I try to take a picture with someone else, it turns out crappy. I'm good with taking pictures by myself, but whenever I try with other people, someone gets cut out, or the picture isn't good. Any tips on taking a good picture with someone?
When we hang out, its normally just us. So having someone else take it is out of the question.

1. Put your camera on a stable surface like a table or a tripod.
2. Set the self-timer
3. Get in front of the camera and pose/smile/etc.
