Twitter: Protecting Tweets?

I set my "Tweet privacy" to "Protect my Tweets".
From this, I know other people can't retweet my tweets.

So, if I use hash marks(#), will my tweets appear on "# discover"???
I don't see the purpose of using # then, unless I protect my tweets.
What happens if I unprotect my tweets, then someone retweeted my tweet.....and then I unprotect my tweets.
What will be the visibility of my retweeted tweet?
