What is the obsession with 'My Little Pony' among some guys...?
I don't know if this is only happening where I live...
But I know quite a few guys who are OBSESSED with it. Why?

It's girly. Some of these guys who are obsessed with it don't seem girly in the slightest.
My friend drew his brother a card and drew a pink pony in it...
I don't care if you think "boys can like pink too etc etc"... that's not really my point. Ponies, rainbows and ribbon tend to be a feminine thing.

Will someone explain what is going on here. I'm really concerned.
I think it's kind of unhealthy, they have twitter accounts for their ponies and everything. It's a bit obsessive. What will they do when they reach 30?

Most guys I know aren't like this btw.
The world has gone mad, and... crazy. HELP ME UNDERSTAND/Give me your opinions.
Thanks!
Okay, by girly I kinda also meant, it's childish. I have watched bits of episodes and it came across as pokemon storyline kind of thing. Or even more childish. It's very simple, but I'll watch some full episodes and maybe that will help me understand.
I know guys can like pink too, I know. I guess to me it seems gay guys are more feminine.. (I am not against people being gay or watching shows they want, but it is my opinion, and apparently where i live you are entitled to your own opinion)!!... and I think though some people are born gay, some turn gay due to environmental factors. So I felt this show was kind of encouraging it if many of the fans are guys. BUT the answers I have gotten have kinda made me unsure now. I'm still UNSURE, BUT it has made me question my opinions on this.

@ Brony Dave - Seriously? I am entitled to my own opinion, something else those in Middle east might not be allowed, so you telling me i can't state whether i think something is wrong o
@ Brony Dave - Seriously? I am entitled to my own opinion, something else those in Middle east might not be allowed, so you telling me i can't state whether i think something is wrong or not, is actually going against what you said. Tongue Think about it.
BUT what you said (other than that) has made me question my opinions on this show. and i will watch more of it, and read up about it and stuff... To try and gain a better understanding. One of my friends (a guy) is obsessed with the show and he is not feminine at all, so what you said makes sense I guess.

Thank you! Smile

As far as I know the obsession is with the recent animated show, not the toys. So-called "Bronies" will assert that they enjoy the story, voice acting, and animation of the cartoon, they don't care that it's a show about pink sparkly ponies and is aimed at little girls.

The obsession with Bronies, as an Internet meme (as opposed to the obsessive behaviour of the Bronies themselves) probably started because some trolls got bored of making fun of furries.

I don't think "boys liking feminine sh*t" is a new thing either, I remember loads of us boys in the 1980s used to like the She-Ra and Care Bears animated series, and they were pretty damned girly.

I don't.. KNOW!!
And they're pretty vicious if you say "Oh how girly"
I've been told that it's for the plot but let's be realistic here.. It's a plot meant for Elementary school kids.. Kid-like language & speaking.. 1 2 3 easy problems..
I don't get it.
I guess guys get entertained eay too easily & have a more kid like brain??
What is this world coming to..

Ahh...it's early in the morning so I'll do this quickly. What defines something girly is an arbitrary cultural convention. People accept it and reproduce such stereotypes without questioning them, that doesn't change the fact that nothing in our biology defines whether pink and ponies are girly or not. Other than that...obsession might be a bit over the top. Some bronies do go to such lengths but in most cases they're just people who like a show because they find it funny and want to talk about it and share things related to that show with other people. What's so hard to understand about that? To put it in other terms, you could very well ask the same question about any other fandom. The only difference people make is related to the unquestioned girly aspect of the show. Is it really that weird that men can like something not stereotypically addressed towards them?

Now I will probably get down voted and marked as spam but I dont care. I'm justing doing it to make my point and someone's gotta take the lead in the hard times of liking mlp so I will volunteer myself.

First thing: why do you even care on what people like or don't like. (Do you want people controlling your life. Because if you do move to the middle east where females have no rights what so ever)
Second thing society changes and you know that. You gotta change with society or you will sink.(if you don't want society to change then move to the Amish community with females still act like females and the males still act like males (the females still make the clothes. They can't get jobs gotta make dinner for the men and can't wear shorts or anything colorful either.

Third thing: it has has good animation. Pretty good va's and good slapstick comedy like old looney tune cartoons. It also has good stories.

Fouth thing: the creators and va's support us as community and actually they like us.
They like our art and fan made music.

Fifth thing: everyone is like family in this community.

Sixth thing: Now this is for me personally at least. (I don't if anybody feels the same about it.

The reason why I like the show is because it's so peaceful and loving in the pony world. Even though they worry they don't have the real world problems like us humans do.
When out in the real world you see people getting killed raped war and violence people worrying about if they will make enough money with this economy. So when I watch the show it kinda takes me away for reality and bring peace to my mind.
